The Marriage of Figaro performed by the Urbana Opera Ensemble

The European Union Center(external link) is proud to present the Urbana Opera Ensemble as the perform excerpts from "The Marriage of Figaro" at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 16.

The Urbana Opera Ensemble is a collective of local musicians whose were brought together by their passion for opera. Hailing from several different departments on campus, this supergroup is bringing excerpts from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." to the Knight Auditorium stage.

Performed in Italian, this four Act Opera tells the story of the drama filled wedding day of servants, Figaro and Susanna. As they prepare for their nuptials, their employer, the Count, attempts to seduce Susanna and marry off Figaro to a rich woman old enough to be his mother. With disguises, mistaken identities, hiding in closets, and lost signet rings, the opera arrives at its farcical climax when the Count and Susanna work together to reveal the Count's duplicity publicly in order to shame him and ultimately bring him to justice. The couple, Figaro and Susanna, is happily married at the end of the opera.

Celebrate the comedy, heartbreak, and romance of the classic opera with the EUC and The Urbana Opera Ensemble.
