Description

From Horowitz. 2002.
This brass shows a lady wearing a pedimental headdress, which utilized strips bordering along the face and forehead. The form through which the hair was strained became a bonnet or cap, worn in the back of the head. Her girdle has a buckle of three rosettes, and from her neck hangs a chain ending in a large tau cross, which she holds. The heraldry on her gown, "a lion rampant with three wounds on the shoulder," may be that of the Bolbec or Robsart families.
The woman cannot be identified. The original slab contained an indent for a shield but not for an inscription. Her dress is that of an elderly woman living around the year 1535.
