Research Remarks

Description

Rogers: Typical of the Assyrian influence is the use of the Tree of Life. This is the center of interest on a two inch seal made of a blackish-green stone. The design is simple and conventionalized. The tree is flanked by a serpent and a winged cherub (compare the garden of Eden story).

Porada: A sacred tree between a lion-griffin and an ibex. Note the cross beneath the griffin. (for motif, cf. Corpus I, 591).
