Registration Assistant for Photography

The Spurlock Museum is a world cultures museum on the U of I campus. We have a collection of over 50,000 archaeological, anthropological, and ethnographic objects.

We have a position open for a Museum Registration Photography Assistant to assist in day-to-day tasks to perform photography and to preserve and manage images relating to the museum and its collections. This position offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience working behind-the-scenes of a museum. It is excellent experience for anyone exploring a career related to photography, museums, or information sciences.

Tasks will include:

  • taking photos of artifacts, exhibits, people, and events,
  • editing images in Photoshop,
  • cataloguing digital images and physical media, including data entry, and
  • image and document scanning.

The candidate must be available for occasional evening and weekend event photography.

The ideal candidate will have experience in photography, including knowledge of photography basics (i.e., shutter speed, aperture, focal length), lenses, lighting, and Adobe Photoshop and Bridge. Knowledge of FileMaker Pro is a plus, and we work with Apple computers. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the field of photography, graphic design, art, museums, anthropology, history, and information science or a related field. Must have excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills, and be detail oriented.

Schedule and Wages:

This position is for 10–20 hours per week position. Work hours are flexible but must be scheduled between the hours of 9:30–4:30 Monday through Friday. This position is open for the Fall 2024 semester but can begin in the summer. The hourly rate is $14.
